Once we tried to erase a line, it crosses again to remind us that we are separated.

Rompecabezas

México ı USA abre con un prefacio de dos acertijos en inglés y español. Estos acertijos Introducen la línea como una forma de separación imaginaria: una frontera. Los acertijos son las instrucciones de un rompecabezas que muestra la imagen satelital del territorio de lo que México y Estados Unidos han reclamado como propio. Sin embargo, la imagen impresa en la caja solo muestra la fotografía del territorio de ambas naciones sin fronteras políticas de ningún tipo. Solo después de intentar armar este rompecabezas, el jugador podrá resolver ambos acertijos. Las piezas en realidad construyen dos rompecabezas. Uno es el mapa geopolítico de México y, el otro, el de Estados Unidos. Los mapas están separados por la frontera política actual. Las piezas de un set no corresponden con el otro ni lo conectan. De esta forma, la frontera nos recuerda que no es suficiente re-imaginar el espacio o elaborar una nueva imagen en donde la línea no exista porque esta vuelve a aparecer de forma tangible para recordarnos que hoy estamos más separados que nunca..

Jigsaw puzzle

Mexico I USA opens with a preface of two riddles translated both to Spanish and English. The riddles introduce the line as an imaginary separation: a frontier. The riddles are also the instructions for the game. The puzzle´s box shows a satellite image of the territory of what Mexico and the United States had claimed to be their own land. However, the image printed on the box reveals a picture of both countries with no political borders. Only after attempting to put this puzzle together, players would be able to answer the riddles. The entire set of pieces configure two separate puzzles. One corresponds to a geographical map of the US and the other to Mexico. The maps are entirely separated by the current geopolitical borderline. The pieces of one puzzle don't match or connect to the other set. In this manner, the frontier reminds us that it is not sufficient to re-imagine this space or attempt to shape a new image in which there is no line because it blatantly reappears once again to confirm that we are more separated than ever.
